The Chevy Belair by Richard Stanford

A new eBook from Richard Stanford for the Ovi eBookshelves.

“It was two o’clock in the morning and across the street Reuben saw through the picture window of a house. The home was dark, but a chandelier sparkled from the light of street lamps. In another house an upstairs light was on: either a shift worker or an insomniac.”

eBook: Malaysia’s Deep Corruption by Murray Hunter

A new eBook for the shelves of the Ovi magazine bookshop. “Malaysia’s Deep Corruption – The evolution of the Malaysian Deep State”, a collection of Murray Hunter’s articles about corruption and deep state in Malaysia.

From the introduction of the book:
Democracy to survive and fulfil its role to safeguard and protect the people, needs vengeful transparency and transparency demands people who are willing to unveil all forms of corruption whatsoever deep they might go, whatever or whoever they might have infiltrate.

Malaysia is in a vital point. The world is changing fast and even a pandemic managed to put a crucial mark in this change. And while the world is changing Malaysia drowns in Symplegades, compressed between a corrupted political and social schemes and a venal dark state.

The Music Teacher #poem & #painting by Nikos Laios

“An old man
Sat in the ruins
Of a bedroom
In a bombed out
Building in Syria
Listening to a record
Of Beethoven,
Legs crossed
Smoking a pipe,
His shock
Of white hair
Wild and messy.”

Alice eating peaches from a can by Abigail George

Getting onto an airplane frightened Alice.
“So, when it comes to your sister, let’s talk about that now?” The handsome, green-eyed (sometimes his eyes were brown and sometimes they were green) Afrikaner doctor asked her.

Sometimes it felt as if Joe, her father was in the room with her. Standing there in his day old clothes, dirt under his fingernails. Glowering at her under his neat eyebrows from out of a corner where smoke was curling from his lips. As if he, Joe, had not given his blessing for ‘this’.

His eyes were ice. The ex-soldier with the difficult bride had married the young girl in a church hall.

Two difficult pregnancies had followed. Both Caesarean sections. Children were wanted but sons.

Heirs, not daughters. The relationship had failed in the end. Neither party believed in the marriage.

Gertrude had walked out on her daughters and her husband. She had enough of cleaning and cooking barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.nanne

“Yes? Oh, I’m answering a question with a question again. The relationship is quite fine now. “We don’t speak. We don’t see eye to eye and I think that there is a part of me that is quite accepting of that now.” Alice replied sinking into the leather sofa in his office.

Ralphy Baby #poem by Dr. Lawrence Nannery

“What did you say when you called me on the phone that time, Ralphy Baby?
You said you were dying of a brain tumor.
Took my breath away.
I couldn’t calculate. I said:
“Don’t say that, Ralphy.”
So you said: “And what’s up with you?””

Bitter Fruit #ShortStory #Fiction by Abigail George

The steak knives were missing. Is there any value in that truth?

Give me a little earth. A place in the sun. A bowl of shelled, salted and roasted peanuts. Let me have a piece of the supernatural universal in my hands. Give me something to grow in the chilled earth that was once made of volcanic rock. I do not really care what you give me to grow just not hidden sadness, or egoism. Too many people let egoism grow on them and then they call it arrogance. Once arrogance is in the picture then your whole wide world is turned asunder. At some point in your life, you are going to stand alone. Sometimes it feels like an hour. Can be longer. Wait for it. It is coming. Like winter in the air. Clouds that look like people. The human being does not know how organic conversation is. It is just as organic as depression, or any other mental illness is. It is just as organic as paperwork. It really means nothing at the end of the day, that sexual impulse. Like a river, it has a song. A marginalised beginning and an end. Marilyn Monroe sweetheart with her ballad of plum flesh naked under moonlight, the Kafkaesque novel between her ears. Her feast of autumn flesh. Her winter flesh.

Her most basic mood a summer or a spring in the photo album is ripe for the taking.

My grey shadow #poem by Bohdan Yuri

the one that falls into a shade

its borrowed soul is from my own
but I never told it what to perform.”

The Mortals of the Megapolis - FREE EBOOK

This is the first EBook of a series that we are going to gradually publish under the name “Mortals of the Megapolis”

The idea came in one of those surreal conversations we have too often with Catherine. Talking through internet, the gap of distance doesn’t help to cover the gap of age and sometimes one of us (usually it is me) is left behind talking about something past. And this conversation had a taste from the past. We were talking about a “game”.

You must know the “game”; we have all played it. You see somebody and you start imagining from conversations to personal details. “He is definitely a banker” or “She is a teacher in a kindergarten.” And then it was an internet page I liked, this is where the ‘I was left behind in another conversation’ came. There is an internet site I had seen and I really liked it. Photos of random people in the streets of a metropolis and a few words from them under the photo. I thought it was fantastic.

Then the only thing left was to combine the two …conversations and create the “Mortals of the Megapolis”.

This is the first book of a hopefully series of books with the mortals who live around us and talk to our imagination. In the meantime new travellers have joined Catherine and me with their imagination in our Megapolis and in the near future you will have the chance to meet them.

For now, please do download the EBook HERE and enjoy our first …mortals!
