Trimensional anxiety – XI by Thanos Kalamidas

The next morning after doing my cardiac exercises and getting dress I walked to the cafe we meet with Britt the days she doesn’t sleep in my apartment or I in hers.

Neither of us looked fresh and relaxed. Obviously we both had a hard night and a lot of things to think. I hope our relationship was not one of them since I was sure me making that scientific sorcery comment didn’t wok very well with her. We drunk our morning coffees in silence and we walked to our group of buildings in silence.

A few meters from the main entrance I couldn’t stop myself, “listen if I said or did anything that bothered you yesterday I apologize.” She looked at me with what I thought tears in her eyes.
“Oh sometimes you are so …so ….self centred. That’s the only thing you should apologize, otherwise I’m just …worrying and …afraid.” And saying that she entered the gate and walked fast towards the accountants building. I just stood there watching till somebody pushed me from the back.

Friends and Sisters #fiction by Abigail George

I am waiting for someone to tell me that they see my value. Dorianne Laux, the American poet was a sanitorium cook, a gas station manager and cook. Did she only find her worth when she turned poet. She was born in Augusta, Maine. Nobody knows what I have carried gently and otherwise I want to tell her. I am a witness. Particular because of my upbringing. There are days when I ask my reflection in the bathroom mirror when are you going to start to live? Birds have layers to them like an onion. Sound, illumination, contesting the innovation of the air with their wings apparent they go forth. Onwards.

Dorianne Laux perhaps said that all that poetry is is preparation for death but does pain end is my question. With your painted third eye sister-guru can you see my sorrows and feel my tears in the long distances between us? I’ve had difficult relationships with my siblings. I’ve struggled to find myself within intimacy, within relationships with the opposite sex and there are days when everything around me seems to be in sync. The world, the betterment of society, positive outcomes, and in those moments I tell myself that the world is an efficient place. We don’t have to fight for anything. We have more than enough resources.

The Present Home #poem by Dr. Lawrence Nannery

“She was beatified, really and truly,
To think that he, far off there in the war,
Away from everything he knew and cherished,
Seeing things he was forced to see:
The filth, the fear, the mud, the rats, the food,
The sight of the bodies blown into undefinable pieces”

Trimensional anxiety – X #fiction by Thanos Kalamidas

Wednesday noon and you could see strange platforms appearing all around. It was not an arm, a leg or a torso anymore. There were shadows and shapes of creatures marching obviously carrying some kind of weapons nobody could identify.

Disappearances also continued. Actually increased including people from the directive. Paul from the eighth directive and Jan from the sixth had disappeared and I knew it because Harlan from the Eighteenth directive was talking about it while in the lift for the sixteenth floor.

And while Tommy and I tried to keep appearances at the office in a world that was slowly going mad form fear, Britt stayed home unveiling and applying the plan. Communicate with a torso and arms without head and hands.

Chevy Bel Air #fiction by Richard Stanford

The closing lines of Reuben’s weekly column rolled out from the typewriter. The radio was on.  Buddy Holly, Not Fade Away and he typed to the rhythm: bop…bop..bopbop…bop…bop…bopbop…”  Through the curtain of snow dual headlight beams sliced across the ceiling.  He concentrated on the last line while outside the rumbling of a car engine cut out, a door opened and closed and Lydia greeted a man at the back door.  Where had he been this time? Kingston?  New York?

“Hey kid, how you doing?”  Leo’s tall silhouette filled the doorway of his room.  He stepped in, the light falling on his dark eyebrows and blue eyes, pale skin and rich dark hair combed in a wave from his forehead.  In his hands he twirled a brown fedora which seemed to Reuben to be an oddity with his jean jacket, black shirt with white buttons, black pleated pants and Converses.  He was dressed more for spring than he was for a winter blizzard.

Trimensional anxiety – IX by Thanos Kalamidas

On Monday, our stenographer arrived more scattered than commonly. The woman came straight in my office where I was with Tommy Hanson engaged on a conversation of the many different assumptions with the strange appearances and she threw the morning of SmÃ¥staden Posten to my desk. Front page, top post; Britt’s photo.
“It’s all over.” She said.
“All over?” Tommy and I looked at her in amazement.
“Online, print, magazines and newspapers. All over.”
“There are also more people disappearing,” she added.
“The directive?” I asked.
“Perhaps.” Tommy said.

Trimensional anxiety – VII by Thanos Kalamidas

The next morning Tommy looked in my office first making sure that I was alone. The evening before had finished uneventfully with all three of us deep in thoughts, Tommy drinking that last of the purple wine, Britt ready for bed and me full of doubts and fears.

Early risers both of us had the chance to talk a bit about the possibility directive might find out what we were up to and Britt reinsured me that if there was even the slightest possibility this to happen she would be the first to know. A little voice in my brain kept saying ‘but she’s an accountant’, but her confidence silence any worry fast. After all, accountants know it all, don’t they?

“He’s laid off,” he said in a real low voice. “The streaming officer,” he added seen the question in my face. “The one reporting the incidents for the streaming services.” He felt that he had to give me something more.

Trimensional anxiety – VI by Thanos Kalamidas

While in a meeting Britt left a message for me with the services that she had a very busy schedule, she was going to be late so if I wanted I could pick something for food and we could all meet in my apartment, leaving a hint that she night spent the night with me.

Still bewildered with the fact that Britt was counselling Tommy in matters that had nothing to do with accounting or logic I decided to get tandoori sushi,  basmati noodles and fried tomatoes for desert when I heard Tommy’s voice.

After our noon conference we haven’t spoke for the rest of the day, me in meetings and him …wherever Tommy goes when he is supposed to work.

“Hi partner,” he said getting closer. “Is purple wine ok with you? I got us a bottle. Are we eating japindie for dinner tonight?”
“We?”
“Oh yes. Britt called earlier and she invited me. She said we need to all meet and put our brains together.”
All?

Julia #Fiction by Abigail George

I suppose it will always be there. Touch. Life. Boys and girls always looking for answers. Always looking for intimacy in all the wrong places. It is inevitable that the children born from those unions end up themselves searching for intimacy at the end of the day in all the wrong places. It does not make them people. It does not make their parents bad people. It is just symptomatic of the world that we live in. I suppose just like earth that there will always be sad people in the world. People who keep to themselves. The savants and the muses. Childhood will also be there. Everybody has a childhood. Not everybody has a mother, a father, a home, and siblings. People can live in houses. I suppose no matter how I measure the love of my parents’ it will always be there.

I wake up in the dark and I still feel as frightened as I did when I was a child waking up to darkness. I prefer loneliness to happiness. I suppose that makes me strange and estranged at the same time. I prefer the black dog of depression to happiness. I prefer writing to not writing. I prefer not to make love. Not to laugh. Not to smile. I prefer animals to people. I prefer to forget that you loved me. I prefer sanity to having elegant answers to the despair of madness. I prefer to forget that you accepted me just the way I am. That you did not expect anything from me in return. I hear my voice. I can actually hear you listening to me. It reminds me of the word ‘tender’. It reminds of the words ‘measure of love’. I never thought that a person could measure love. I am touched that you are in fact listening to me.

Trimensional anxiety – V by Thanos Kalamidas

“Actually it was not my idea….” I looked at him almost shocked. Tommy admitting that something involving mystery and unexplained wasn’t his idea? That was new.
“It was Britt’s idea.” And that was a shocker. A multihydrogen, hypersonic and multicardiac bomb sock that shook all my body starting from my toes and eventually hitting my forehead.
“My Britt?” Was the only thing that came out of mouth before looking for my water in one of my office draws.

“You know she’s directive two, don’t you?”
“Accountants Tommy, accountants.”
“Well, that’s what they like everybody to believe.”
“They are damn accountants Tommy. Britt is an accountant.”

Ovi magazine; Sunday August 13th, 2023 – Happy Lefthanders Day!

The articles, the opinions, the stories, the poems, the thoughts, the reviews, the photos, the paintings and the cartoons Ovi magazine covers for Sunday August 13th, 2023 – Happy Lefthanders Day!

August 13 is designated International Lefthanders Day by Lefthanders International. It was first observed 13 August 1976. As its name suggests, it is meant to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world. It celebrates their uniqueness and difference, who are from seven to ten percent of the world’s population.

Trimensional anxiety – III by Thanos Kalamidas

Tommy Hanson is a colleague. Member of the third directive, two floors and to the left from the sixth directive where I work but his flamboyant character and disrespect to authority and the rules – actually that what made him perfect for the third directive – often brought him to my office.

Tommy works, if that isn’t too strong a word for it, three days a week and he spends most of this time trying to introduce others to his hobby, scheme conjectures. A field that obviously suits better thirteenth directive or office forty-one but Tommy has always a person that crosses boundaries and even though a member of the third directive he considers himself a scheme conjectures expert.

I tolerate him for one and only one reason, we grew up together, he knows my mother, I know his mother and he pays the best multidimensional domino in the world, so when we partner for the directives championship we always win.

Elise by Abigail George

It feels as if my bones have been put into a box for safekeeping until I am sane again. Until all the madness in my life has left me. This makes me happy, elated but I am also left sad. I am surrounded by water. I know when winter comes then I will not be able to stand the water. It will be too cold to swim. There were days when the insanity was like having a sweet tooth. There lies a blazing a trail. There lies isolation in front of me, behind me. The fall, Lazarus, berg falling slowly, and what we keep when our world shifts and family and early life. You are gone. My second mother and the love of my life. The bonds that mothers and their daughters have are like veins. I never anticipated this moment of nostalgia for one second. How much I would miss her and the conversations that we used to have.

So, what if I searched for intimacy in the wrong places? Everybody else was doing it so why could I not do the same thing. I knew that it was not an experience of love or respect. This temporary feeling. I lost someone. The lighthouse was no longer beaming down at me. All men could do was scheme. At first, I was oblivious to that. To their movement in the world. I wanted to survive on the little affection that they gave me. I wanted them to scribble affection, written on my body I thought that would make me complete somehow.

The clairvoyant and Alice #fiction by Abigail George

‘She always managed to make me feel small. I withdraw into a shell. She wins.’ Dr Phil’s guest on the television belted out. Tears were not far away. Everyday Alice made a list of things to her. It helped her to remain focus. It helped her to be a good girl. Not to get into other people’s way in the house. For a girl Alice was extremely dirty but she had a kind of loveliness, an aura about her. Hair unkempt that was always falling into her eyes. Dirt under her fingernails. Mud on her boots. Alice enjoyed the company of men. Her father, her brother’s friends, Mikale, Julian, an ex-boyfriend and Onke, a childhood friend, watching television with her nephew. She did not trust women. Beautiful women. Beautiful women like her mother. In her mother’s garden the flowers and the sun seemed ancient to her.

Even in winter the trees were green. Her brother took a pruning cutter to the trees. They had to go. It made sense when he said it but she knew she would miss them in a way that was difficult to explain. It was difficult for her to make friends with women who were far more attractive in their own way than Alice was. She thought about women whom the world had not been kind to. Women just like her. Women unattractive in their own way. It seemed to her that it was women not men who had all the power. The power to destroy people on their own quiet path on their part with no effort at all. Of course men had the indomitable power of crushing anyone in their way.
