How To Convince An Addict To Get Help by Stan Popovich

There are many reasons why people who use drugs and alcohol do not get the help they need to overcome their addictions and other issues.

Some family members who see the people they love struggle may have a difficult time in getting them assistance.

As a result, here are seven suggestions on how to convince a person struggling with drugs and alcohol to get help.

1. A family intervention could work: The most popular way to get someone the help they need is to do a family intervention. This is when family members and an interventionist get together with the person to tell them how much they love them and that they need to get some assistance.  The person whose having a hard time listens and hopefully they become convinced to get the treatment they need.

Edmond Privat by Rene Wadlow

17 August is the birth anniversary of Edmond Privat in 1889 − a leading world citizen of the first wave of world citizen action closely associated with the League of Nations.  It was natural for Privat, a citizen of Geneva, to be drawn to the efforts of the League of Nations.

He served from 1923 to 1927 as the vice-delegate for Iran.  In the early League days, many States did not have a permanent representative to the League and so named an “intellectual personality” to represent the country.  Privat also worked at different times at the League as an interpreter from English to French.  In those days, there was no simultanious interpretation but only consequtive interpretation. The interpreter, standing near the speaker had to convey some of the same drama in his voice. Privat was an experienced orator, one of the first to make regular radio broadcasts and so was much appreciated as an interpreter. At the time, the League Secretariat staff was small, and there was a good deal of interaction among the staff and the government delegates.  Thus Privat, already a political journalist, could follow closely world events and the League efforts.

2. Get an addiction expert to talk to the person: Another way to convince the person to get help is to get someone who is an expert on drugs and alcohol and have them do a one-on-one talk with the person who is struggling. This person should explain what will happen if they do nothing. This may help convince the individual whose having a difficult time to get some guidance.

To whoever has the desire #poem & #painting by Amir Khatib

“You may not be forced into anything.
no one can see you,
other than open air,
On an ignorant sea that has not uttered a word since its birth,
Or a desert that forgets its sands and asks you for your name,
when you have had enough”

Alcohol And Substance Abuse Will Not Take Away Your Fears by Stan Popovich

Using drugs and alcohol will not take away your problems and fears. In the short run, they might make you feel better, but in the long run these addictions will only make things worse.

As a result, here are eight tips on how to manage your persistent fears and anxieties without using drugs and alcohol.

1. Take it one day at a time: Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your issues. In addition, you will not feel overwhelmed with everything if you focus on one thing at a time.

2. Learn how to manage your fearful thoughts: When experiencing a negative thought, read some positive statements and affirmations that will help lift your spirits and make you feel better. Remember that your fearful thoughts may be exaggerated so balance these thoughts with realistic thinking and common sense.

The Degenerate Gambler by Nikos Laios

Gambling is an interesting topic to write about and this article on gambling has been something that this author has wanted to write for a while now, having witnessed firsthand the toxic results of gambling both in my own family and those around me, and the acceptance that gambling is indeed a societal problem. This theme is especially relevant for first world countries, and most particularly in Australia. Now when one thinks of gambling, one would have thought that the USA was the world’s biggest gambling nation; the bright lights of Las Vegas or Atlantic City come to mind here, but one would be mistaken.

Now the title of this article ‘ The Degenerate Gambler’ is a very strong one indeed, and one would be right in asking whether this a reference to a particular person? The person who inspired this article is mainly this writer’s late father, but also indirectly applies to many others that this writer has observed over the years. To give the reader some background and context, a brief family biography is required here to understand the genesis of this article on the theme of gambling, and on the wider themes of materialism and consumerism. This writer’s late father was from the highlands of Greece and learned card playing in Greece, and his gambling blossomed upon migration to Australia. I was still a young boy when my father would take me to tavernas in Greece and gambling dens in Australia to watch him gamble.

Child …phone addicts

Two children in Spain have been admitted to a mental health institution to be treated for addiction to their mobile phones, Spanish media report.

The children, aged 12 and 13, were sent to the clinic by their parents, who said they could not carry out normal activities without their handsets. They were doing badly at school and lying to relatives in order to get money to spend on their phones. They have been learning to cope without their phones for three months.

Dr Maite Utges, who runs the Child and Youth Mental Health Centre in Lleida, near Barcelona in north-eastern Spain, said it was the first time the clinic had treated children who were dependent on their mobile phones. "They both showed disturbed behavior and this exhibited itself in failure at school. They both had serious difficulties leading normal lives," she was quoted in Spanish papers as saying.

So among others mobile telephone companies connect people with their …alternative world!!!
