New European Structures: Will They Have A Creative Impact? by Rene Wadlow
The first session of the newly created European Political Community met in Prague on 6 October with 43 heads of State or Government present and the President of Ukraine by video. This new structure is largely due to the efforts of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, who, during the French presidency of the European Union stressed the need for the creation of a European body without the Russian Federation which is a member of the Organization for Security and Coopeeration in Europe (OSCE) and without the U.S.A. present in NATO.
The European Political Community has the European Union states at its core but also states not part of the EU such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein. The European Political Cpmmunity also has states that one does not usually consider as “European” such as Armenia and Azerbaijan.
