Trimensional anxiety – VIII by Thanos Kalamidas

We were close to where we were going to meet Britt for lunch, both of us silently walking fast, me the angry one Tommy enjoying the situation.  There was some rain so little was moving around and we were just ready to turn the corner when my eye caught on my left some kind of weird movement. Obviously Tommy felt the same because our turn left was simultaneous.

An obviously male torso stood there, turned towards us with something like a pad stack on its chest that projected a picture. A picture of Britt in a garden of yellow flowers. ‘Stood’ perhaps was not the right word since the torso was somehow hovering nearly a meter above the ground.

And then it vanished just like it appeared; suddenly.

Long lost past, stupidly ruins future & hope by Thanos Kalamidas

Traditions in the media universe want these days to choose a person, persons or an event that somehow marked the year that just ended. A tradition we followed in the beginning of Ovi’s life and I’m afraid for only very few years.

The main reason we stopped it was … well, the person who was cataclysmic news in January was …no news at all in February and an event that brought in the end of the world in May was just no news on Tuesday. And then the big question, why mark a whole year with an evil person or a tragic event even though it was on the news more than anything else? Just like this year. A year marked by the Ukrainian invasion by Putin and monopolised the covers from all the magazines all around the world – well, minor Russia – including the Europevision song contest.

Let me put it in a different way, if the Ukrainian people should be cover in every magazine in the world what about the Russian people. They weren’t invaded by Putin; they live under Putin for decades. Aren’t they heroes? However and there lays the hypocrisy and the surrealism of the international community, instead of feeling pity for these people, governments enforce sanctions against them and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, demands from the international community to punish them for Putin’s crimes in the spirit of the hitlerian collective responsibility. In the midtime and since that might sound too …hitlerian states all around the world forbid Tchaikovsky’s music!

Maurice Bejart: Starting off the Year with a Dance by Rene Wadlow

January first is the birth anniversary of Maurice Béjart, a innovative master of modern dance.  In a world where there is both appreciation and fear of the mixing of cultural traditions, Maurice Béjart was always a champion of blending cultural influences.  He was a world citizen of culture and an inspiration to all who work for a universal culture.  His death on 22 November 2007 was a loss, but he serves as a forerunner of what needs to be done so that beauty will overcome the walls of separation.  One of the Béjart’s most impressive dance sequences was Jérusalem, cité de la Paix in which he stressed the need for reconciliation and mutual cultural enrichment.

Béjart followed in the spirit of his father, Gaston Berger (1896-1960), philosopher, administrator of university education, and one of the first to start multi-disciplinary studies of the future.  Gaston Berger was born in Saint-Louis de Sénégal, with a French mother and a Sénégalese father. Sénégal, and especially Leopold Sedar Sengore pointed with pride to Gaston Berger as a “native son” — and the second university after Dakar was built in Saint-Louis and carries the name of Gaston Berger.

Sunak’s plenty of great expectations and nil hope by Thanos Kalamidas

Rishi Sunak; the first person of colour, the first practising Hindu and one of the richest persons in Britain to become the youngest prime minister in modern UK history. These words are a repeated reference in all UK media and most of the world’s news agencies the last few days creating a strange momentum of hope, we have unfortunately seen before.

Without moving far away, crossing oceans or anything like that, wasn’t Margaret Thatcher the first woman to become UK prime minister a few decades before? Wasn’t she the wind of change for women’s equality rights in an era where women’s liberations movement was reaching a peak? Wasn’t she the hope to restore financial stability for the middle class UK and security for the working class in Great Britain?

It took less than a year for everybody, not only in UK but all around the world, to realize that Margaret Thatcher was the worst enemy of women’s equality rights and the strongest provider of unemployment for the working class. The woman made the oppression of the working class and the establishment of the systematic inequality dogma and her legacy in history books.

A vat of liquid cow manure covering the area of five football fields and 33 feet deep is California's most alternative new energy. On a dairy farm in the Golden State's agricultural heartland, utility PG&E Corp began on Tuesday producing natural gas derived from manure, in what it hopes will be a new way to power homes with renewable, if not entirely clean, energy.

A certified nurse's assistant has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure after "mooning" two co-workers while on the job at the Frasier Meadows Assisted Living Center, according to Boulder police. Two nurses told police that Suzanne Mueffelmann, 42, of Longmont, flashed her buttocks outside the room of a Frasier Meadows resident, according to an arrest report.

The SwissMiniGun is the size of a key fob but fires tiny 270mph bullets powerful enough to kill at close range. Officially the world's smallest working revolver, the gun is being marketed as a collector's item and measures just 2.16 inches long (5.5cm). It can fire real 4.53 bullets up to a range of 367ft (112m). The stainless steel gun costs £3,000 although the manufacturers also produce extravagant, made-to-order versions made out of 18-carat gold with customised diamond studs which sell for up to £30,000.

People who do not drink alcohol may finally have a reason to start -- a study published on Friday shows non-drinkers who begin taking the occasional tipple live longer and are less likely to develop heart disease. People who started drinking in middle age were 38 percent less likely to have a heart attack or other serious heart event than abstainers -- even if they were overweight, had diabetes, high blood pressure or other heart risks, Dr. Dana King of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and colleagues found.

An art display which invited the public to put live goldfish through a food blender did not constitute cruelty to animals, a Danish court has ruled. The goldfish were placed on display swimming in the blenders, and visitors were told they could press the "on" button if they wanted. At least one visitor did, killing two goldfish.

Police wrangled a gigantic pink bunny from atop an overpass above Interstate-95 in Palm Beach Gardens this morning. "He was a hazard," said a Gardens dispatcher, and apparently causing quite a traffic back up to boot. The fuzzy culprit turned out to be the Buzz Bunny, who is promoting Buzz 103.1 FM's upcoming adult Easter egg hunt.
