The articles, the opinions, the stories, the poems and the
cartoons Ovi magazine covers for Monday October 31st, 2022 – Halloween
Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on
October 31, and Halloween 2022 will occur on Monday, October 31. The
tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when
people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the
eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to
honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the
traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve,
and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of
activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive
gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.
Women as Peacemakers by Rene Wadlow
October 31 is the anniversary of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325 which calls
for full and equal participation of women in conflict prevention, peace
processes, and peace-building, thus creating opportunities for women to
become fully involved in governance and leadership. This historic
Security Council resolution 1325 of 31 October 2000 provides a mandate
to incorporate gender perspectives in all areas of peace support. Its
adoption is part of a process within the UN system through its World
Conferences on Women in Mexico City (1975), in Copenhagen (1980), in
Nairobi (1985), in Beijing (1995), and at a special session of the U.N.
General Assembly to study progress five years after Beijing (2000).
Since 2000, there have been no radical changes as a result of
Resolution 1325, but the goal has been articulated and accepted. Now
women must learn to take hold of and generate political power if they
are to gain an equal role in peace-making. They must be willing to try
new avenues and new approaches as symbolized by the actions of
Lysistrata.

Baghdadi gate #prose & #painting by Amir Khatib
I dreamed of a path I had never known
before, its spiraling building, its glass doors without locks, and the
sounds of its windows occupied me; Voices without words are like the
sound of a millstone grinding, even the passers-by were in another form
that I have not seen. They resemble transparent shadows, they sympathize
whenever they pass on a height in the ground, and some of them
disappear behind each other and dissolve in it.
