Life sans social networks by Dr Elsa Lycias Joel

There was a time when there were no social networks to tether people. It was in the absence of texts, emojis, emails and real conversations that people were able to appreciate the depth of love they felt. The outside world remained outside of people’s lives. Knowing people, falling in love, being in a relationship, securing a job, going on a trip  were not posted on ‘walls’ for all to scroll through.

Talk about phones. There existed just a landline that rang once in a blue moon because many others didn’t own a phone to call you. No voice mail, no caller ID to help people take note of missed calls and return them. The long wait after booking a trunk call made conversations good enough. We had enough time to travel back and reminisce to make our conversation long enough to express ourselves and short enough to strengthen the bond.
