There is an ultimate. Perhaps it is not ultimate to the end of everything but the ultimate limit to human presumptions and assumptions, and if not to the world – the whole, round, wide, finite, atmospheric, metabolic, physical and metaphysical world – then the world as we know it, or world as we pretend and misuse to be for our control – the imperialistic anthropocentric ideology of subjugation and mechanical conquest.
And everybody, men, women and miseducated youth in the legacy of shadow-casting ego-inflation and the inhuman, clings desperately; more or less addicted to despair and the deformities of arrogance (the beautiful deformities of self-referential arrogance). But we shall not have the last word, possessed by self-possession, on and about ourselves and a future, of convenience, contrivance, continuance, entitlement. There is a reckoning with the inscrutable dynamic of evolution, where some life forms are nourished while other forms suffer depletion, are hollowed out, scattered in tempests, tides, eruptions, quakes, and droughts – blusters and ice-scapes, and climate fires.
