A gun to be investigated

The Finnish Parliamentary Ombudsman is to investigate how the gunman in the Jokela school massacre a few months ago was granted a firearms permit.

Matti Tohkanen, the Police Chief of the precinct of Central Uusimaa said that he granted Pekka-Eric Auvinen a permit for a .22 caliber pistol because Auvinen’s reasoning for getting a permit was checked out and everything was in order. Tohkanen said that he would have not had any reason not to grant him the permit. As a member of a shooting club he was granted a permanent license.

So what was that, that made him logitiment to carry a gun? Was he threaten, was his life in danger? The excuse that he was in a shooting club sounds somehow poor especially now after killing eight people in a school. Shouldn’t be some kind of restrictions on how to deal with guns even if you are member of a shooting club? I mean been a member of a shooting club doesn’t automatically promotes you to John Wayne or in this case to Charles Manson.

These members should be restrict into having their guns into secure places inside the club they are members to, why would they need the gun outside the club if they cannot do anything with it? It is one thing to have a gun as part of a membership in a shooting club and another having a gun for safety which means again a good reasoning, responsible character and this short of license should be very rare.
