Expanding the possibilities within climate science by Murray Hunter

The current narratives and theatrics around climate science/global warming have us believe carbon is the culprit, and the world must head towards a net-zero carbon emission society. This is very much a singular explanation for an extremely complex phenomenon that few people truly understand the parameters and dynamics of.

The first hypothesis on the greenhouse effect was developed back in 1896 by Samuel Pierpoint Langley and Frank W. Very. This was enhanced during the 1950-60s, where by 1972 John Sawyer hypothesized that human created carbon dioxide emissions contributed to greenhouse gases. This is where the mantra that “The increase of 25% CO2 expected by the end of the 20th Century, corresponds to an increase of 0.6oC increase in the mean would temperature.”

U.N. Focus on Consequences of Climate Change by Rene Wadlow

On 20 March 2023, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a Synthesis Report based on its three previous reports covering eight years of work.  The IPCC is a panel of 93 scientists co-chaired by Hoesung Lee of South Korea and Valerie Masson-Delmotte of France. The Synthesis Report stressed that “Prioritizing equity, climate justice, social justice, and just transition actions are needed for climate resilient development.”

There are three billion people who live in areas that are highly vulnerable to climate change.  One of the consequences of climate change is to increase migration from these vulnerable areas.  The concept of safe and orderly migration has not yet been put into practice. Climate change also has a negative impact on food production.

The IPCC, created in 1988, makes recommendations for action, put policies have to be established and carried out by governments. Thus, a UN conference will be held in New York this September.  The recommendations of the IPCC also influence the policy proposals of non-governmental organizations whose influence on climate issues is growing.

“How many times do we seek so at the highest
Their thoughts opinions on matters of our concern
As though age or position makes them much the wisest,
Able to take stands, magically matters discern.”

#COP26 and reclaiming our neglected duty of stewardship by Dr. Habib Siddiqui

COP26, the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference, is being held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, U.K., between 31 October and 12 November 2021.

Who would have believed that the levels of the two most important anthropogenic greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide and methane, continued their unrelenting rise in 2020 despite the economic slowdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic response? 2010-2019 is the warmest decade on record. On the current path of carbon dioxide emissions, the global temperature is expected to increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius by the end of century.

Scientists, climate activists and UN officials have been warning that if governments don’t take drastic action to reducing emissions immediately, much of the world will suffer climate catastrophes, such as devastating sea-level rise, longer and more intense heat waves, and widespread species loss, among other consequences like the infrastructure damages. Going forward, it is important for communities to invest in resilient infrastructure that will be able to withstand future climate risks.

Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. The Arctic Ocean is expected to become essentially ice free in summer before mid-century. The intensity, frequency and duration of hurricanes have all increased since the 1980s. Sea-level is projected to rise another 1 to 8 feet by 2100. Bolivia’s second-largest lake has all but dried up due to drought; Iran’s largest lake has all but disappeared; and Lake Chad, Africa’s largest, has shrunk 80 percent in 30 years.

The cheerful twitter of the birds captured in green tapestries of leaves.
The draperies of prospects out of coffee, plans to be fulfilled”
