There is only one word in the English language with one letter. It is the word “I” and, unlike all other pronouns it is always capitalized. It implies, I suppose, a modicum of egoistic deification since God (or at least the Christian God) is also initially capitalized. And it is sounded like the word “eye” which may imply in some vague way the dependence on sight that is so characteristic of the human animal. And sometimes switching the two can reveal an underlying truth such as in the aphorism “Beauty is in the I of the beholder”.

There are many two-letter words. A few pronouns such as he, and we. And then there is “is” which has caused many problems.
