International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO’s General Conference in November 1999. Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.

The ‘Sheraton Putsch’ that removed the Pakatan Harapan government from power, the replacement of Muhyiddin Yassin with Ismail Sabri Yakoob as prime minister, the dissolution of Sabah, Melaka, and now Johor state assemblies have one thing in common. These events were solely about who should rule. They were not about any fundamental disagreements over policy. They were tactical lunges for power.
The Malaysian political arena is structured on such a way that encourages power plays. Government and politics in Malaysia require various parties to simultaneously collaborate on mutual objectives, yet compete with each other at the same time. Political alliances are being made and broken on a regular basis on both sides of politics.
